The Advantages of Installing a Heat Pump

There are a myriad of different heat pump system types available on the market. So many, in fact, that it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the sheer number of different options available. Each heating system type has its place, though. What’s important is that you find the best one for your needs. Read on for some of the ways that a heat pump might help you this winter.

Heat Pumps

A heat pump is constructed much the same way as a split air conditioning system, with one unit installed inside and one outside. Like an air conditioner, a heat pump evaporates and condenses refrigerant to move heat from one place to another. Unlike an air conditioner, though, a heat pump is able to reverse the flow of refrigerant through its system. This enables it to offer both air conditioning and heating functions. When in heating mode, the heat pump simply evaporates refrigerant in the outside unit to absorb thermal energy from the surrounding air. The indoor unit then vents the collected heat inside the home.

Advantages

Heat pumps have a number of advantages over other climate control systems. They’re far more energy efficient than traditional combustion-based heating systems, since they do not need to burn fuel to generate heat. The ability to act as both a heater and air conditioner is the primary reason that many homeowners install heat pumps. Using one system for climate control all year-round instead of two saves quite a bit of money and space. These are just a couple of the advantages that a heat pump has to offer.
