Common Ductless Air Conditioning Problems to Watch for

If you’re using a ductless system to keep cool this summer, you should keep an eye out for some common problems that may occur. The more you rely on your ductless system, the more strain you’re going to put it under and the more likely it’s going to be for problems to occur. Let’s take a look at some of the common ductless air conditioning problems you might run into this summer.

Refrigerant Leaks

Refrigerant is the core of the ductless air conditioning system. The system evaporates and condenses it to move heat from one place to another. The initial charge of refrigerant that the system receives upon installation should be enough to last for its entire lifespan. If a leak develops in the refrigerant line, it will drain the system of the fluid it needs to operate. This will cause a steady decline in output, eventually resulting in a full system breakdown. You should call for repairs as soon as you notice any fluid dripping from the ductless system.

Air Handler Issues

The most common air handler issue you can deal with is a broken air handler motor. The air handler motor is the part of the system responsible for circulating air throughout the room during operation. Each motor is equipped with a series of lubricated bearings, which help to reduce friction on it while it’s on. As the bearings wear down, they cause the friction on the air handler motor to increase. This causes a loud grinding sound to come from the system. If you hear this sound coming from your air conditioner, call for repairs as soon as possible. Otherwise, the air handler motor may overheat and burn out.
